Your challenge as Software Engineer / Project Manager
You will specify and design software architecture and deliver software (independently or with nearshore partner). It is your responsibility to contribute to the elaboration of product/system specification & architecture, in collaboration with the Product architect / System Engineer. To make this happen you work on in-vehicle and vehicle-to-shore connectivity which is essential for efficient and effective vehicle operation by our customers. Techniques such as condition-based maintenance are being introduced more widely.
The Alstom software focuses within the vehicles on closed-loop controls, operation, steering and information provision. We also make maintenance software that usually runs on a laptop and for data analysis we make acquisition, transmission, conversion and analysis software. During development and validation, we use scale models of vehicle parts developed within Alstom and HIL simulations.
Our focus in Ridderkerk is on providing services to customers. This often requires adapting or replacing existing software. In order to obtain and maintain the level of knowledge of this software, usually produced by other Alstom branches, it is important to work well internationally and to properly manage scale models on which this software can be tested.
We do all this with a multitude of techniques and programming languages; from IEC 61131-3 to Matlab Simulink and from C to C# and from Python to R. So experienced in Embedded C is required and at least one object-oriented language is a strong preference.
An average project takes about 3 to 12 months to complete, some examples are the PCL replacement project for the Rotterdam Metro and replacing a screen in Helsinki.
You will be part of a team of 10 Software Engineers that work in a friendly environment. When we are at the office, we’ll have lunch together in the canteen. We report to Emil Vogel (Software / Control / Verification Domain Leader).
You will help making our world greener and safer in an innovative company that works with the newest techniques. The challenge lies in the enormous variety and multidisciplinary character of our work, in which dated and state-of-the-art technology must be combined.
